Rebecca Sramkova made it through to the next round of the Canadian Open after a straight sets win over Anna Blinkova. She broke on five separate occasions as she won 6-3 6-3 after one hour and 15 minutes. This was Sramkova’s first WTA 1000 victory of the season. She is yet to advance beyond the second-round of a WTA event in 2026, and is still currently ranked outside the world’s top 140.
Her opponent is Diana Shnaider, who received a bye in the first-round. The Russian got her North American hard court swing off to a strong start as she reached the semi-finals of the Washington Open. Shnaider defeated Anastasia Potapova and Liudmila Samsonova without dropping a set, before losing to top seed Jessica Pegula. Her highlight of the season was her best ever result at a Grand Slam; a run to the last four at Roland Garros.
Shnaider has enough firepower to dominate the exchanges in this match, and she will hope to replicate the level she showed in Washington.
