Raphael Collignon makes his Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon. The Belgian is ranked 87 in the world but hasn’t featured since withdrawing midway through his first-round match against Brandon Nakashima in Hamburg. He was unable to feature at the French Open, but Collignon does have two wins on the Challenger Tour this season.
Marin Cilic is not the player he once was but showed his class this month by picking up a title on grass. He won the Nottingham Challenger, defeating Shintaro Mochizuki in straight sets. The former Grand Slam champion is now on a five-match winning run as he heads to the All England Club, where he made the final eight years ago.
These two faced each other for the first time earlier this year, as Cilic easily beat Collignon 6-1 6-3 to win another Challenger event in Lugano. The Belgian is incredibly inexperienced on the grass and hasn’t played a match on the surface since 2023. Cilic is the heavy favourite in this one and should get off to a winning start.
