Raphael Collignon earned his first win at a major after defeating Daniel Elahi Galan in straight sets. The Belgian dropped serve on just one occasion and won 75% of his first serve points as he beat the Colombian 6-4 6-4 6-4 after two hours and 19 minutes in the first-round. He now faces 2022 finalist Casper Ruud for a place in round three.
The Norwegian swept aside Sebastian Ofner in three sets to get through to round two. Ruud breezed through the first two sets and did not lose serve during the match. Ofner dug in to make the third more competitive, but Ruud came out on top in the tiebreak to win 6-1 6-2 7-6. Then three-time slam finalist fired 41 winners on his way to victory.
Collignon will relish the chance to face the Norwegian, but he lacks the weapons to truly hurt him over a five set match. If Ruud puts in a similar performance, he is a very strong favourite to advance into the third-round with a straight sets victory.
