Raphael Collignon continued his progress in Brisbane as he defeated former world number three Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets. The Belgian was not broken on serve as he edged a tight first set and controlled the second to win 7-6 (1) 6-3 after one hour and 48 minutes.

He now takes on Brandon Nakashima for a place in the semi-finals. Nakashima was also faultless on serve as he eased his way to a 6-2 6-4 win over Quentin Halys in the previous round. He is yet to drop a set at this year’s event and is one match away from a first semi-final on the ATP Tour since the Chengdu Open.

They have faced each other on two previous occasions, with Nakashima winning both. They last faced each other in Hamburg last year and Collignon was forced to retire from the match in the first set after going 6-5 down. The American’s consistency and strategic play, along with his higher ranking makes him the commanding favourite for this one.
