Raphael Collignon reached the second-round of the French Open after a comfortable win over Aleksandar Vukic. The Belgian won in straight sets as he claimed a 6-3 6-3 7-6 (4) victory. The Belgian advanced to the final of a Challenger event in Bordeaux earlier this month. Collignon has won two Challenger titles this season, but that was his first ever main draw win at Roland Garros.
He now takes on Ben Shelton. The American produced a fine display in round one as he beat Daniel Merida. The Spaniard had notched up some impressive results during this clay court campaign and was expected to challenge Shelton, but the number five seed was always in control as he won 6-3 6-3 6-4.
Shelton seems to bring a whole new level to his game at slams, but Collignon is another player who can be dangerous on this surface, especially if he can extend the rallies to his advantage. If Shelton continues to serve well, he will have the upper hand.
