Rafael Jodar vs Alexander Zverev prediction

Rafael Jodar reached his first ever Grand Slam quarter-final on just his second major appearance as he came from two sets down to beat compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta. Jodar required five sets to defeat Alex Michelsen in the previous round, and he was forced to do the same as Carreno Busta produced a turnaround in the first set and went further clear in the second. The 19-year-old largely controlled the next three sets to win 4-6 4-6 6-1 6-2 6-2. Jodar became just the sixth man since 2000 to advance to the last eight on their Roland Garros debut, joining the likes of slam champions Juan Carlos Ferrero, Rafael Nadal and Jannik Sinner.

He will now face world number three Alexander Zverev. The German kept alive his hopes of a maiden Grand Slam as he beat Jesper de Jong in straight sets. De Jong went 3-0 up at the start of the match and led 3-0 in the first set tiebreak, but Zverev would soon take control as he won 7-6 (3) 6-4 6-1. This will now be his sixth consecutive appearance in the quarter-finals of this event.

Despite getting through to the last eight, Jodar’s level has fluctuated at times across his first four matches. His excellent return game will need to be at it’s very best to counter Zverev’s formidable serve, and the three-time slam finalist is a firm favourite to advance.
