Quentin Halys received a bye in the first-round as the fourth seed and begins his Hangzhou Open campaign in the round-of-16. The Frenchman was close to an upset against top seed and eventual champion Alexander Zverev at the US Open last time out, losing in five sets at the second-round stage. His standout achievement of the campaign was winning his maiden ATP title in Kitzbuhel, defeating defending champion Alexander Bublik in the final.

He plays Roman Safiullin. The Russian produced an emphatic performance in the first-round, beating Fajing Sun 6-2 6-0. His best tour-level run of 2026 was his run from qualifying to the round-of-16 at Wimbledon, which included impressive victories over Andrey Rublev and Joao Fonseca. He has also won two Challenger titles this season.

Safiullin’s explosive style could trouble Halys, but the latter is comfortably ranked higher in the rankings and should be able to win a number of free points with his serve.
