Quentin Halys pulled off a fine win in the previous round as he defeated defending champion Alexander Bublik. The match ended prematurely a day earlier due to rain, with Halys serving to stay in the tournament at 6-5 down in the third set. The Frenchman would hold serve and edged ahead in the tiebreak to win 6-7 (4) 6-4 7-6 (5).

He will now face Alexander Shevchenko for a place in the last four. Shevchenko defeated Dominic Stricker in straight sets. He saved seven out of eight break points as he won 7-6 (5) 6-2. The Kazakhstani came from a set down to beat Alexandre Muller in his opening match, and he is now into his second tour-level quarter-final of the season.

Halys will look to dominate behind his first serve, but Shevchenko’s consistency makes him a difficult opponent on this surface. This is likely to be a pretty close encounter between the two players, but Halys’ serve should keep him in every set.
