Qinwen Zheng vs Yulia Putintseva prediction

Qinwen Zheng continued her encouraging form in New York as she recovered from going a set down to beat fellow qualifier Kristina Liutova in the first-round. Liutova had made headlines as she won a title on her WTA Tour debut in Memphis last month, and then qualified for this event after three straight wins. She took the first set here, but Zheng improved as the match wore on, winning 4-6 6-3 6-1. 

She now faces Yulia Putintseva, after the Kazakh produced one of the biggest upsets of the first-round by beating Belinda Bencic. She struck 37 winners, converted five of 10 break points and capitalised on nine Bencic double faults to win 4-6 7-5 6-3 after two hours and 51 minutes. This was a big improvement for Putintseva in relation to recent form, as she lost to Maya Joint in the qualifying rounds of the Monterrey Open.

Zheng has now won four matches in a row, and that will have given her valuable rhythm. Putintseva also has to recover from a draining first-round match.
