Qinwen Zheng vs Elise Mertens prediction
Qinwen Zheng did not lose her serve and only gave up two break points on her way to defeating Maria Sakkari 6-4 6-1 in the second round.
This was her first match on clay since winning the Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics, and she is now on a 12-match winning run on the surface, solidifying herself as one of the most formidable WTA clay-court players.
Elise Mertens advanced through to the third round with a 6-3 7-5 win over Varvara Gracheva. The Belgian ended up making hard work of the second set, having raced to a 5-1 lead and served for the match twice, while also giving up 11 break points to the Frenchwoman during the whole match.
These two have never played each other before so there is little history to fall back upon, but there were elements to Mertens’ performance in the last round that will concern her, and we can see nothing other than a Zheng win to continue her run on the surface.
