Polina Kudermetova vs Mariana Stakusic prediction

Polina Kudermetova’s US Open campaign ended in the second-round as she lost to world number and eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 6-2. Kudermetova had performed well in the first set and will hope for a deep run in Guadalajara after a dreadful run of form which saw her go over three months without a victory on the tour. The Russian has picked up a couple of wins over the last few weeks but needs a strong performance this week if she is to replicate some of her earlier form in the campaign, which saw her make the final in Brisbane and get through to round three in Indian Wells.

The world number 155 Mariana Stakusic is her opponent after she qualified for the main draw. She lost in the first-round of the 125 event last week. The 20-year-old has just one victory on the WTA Tour this year in Cluj, while she failed to qualify for the US Open a fortnight ago. Stakusic has reached two quarter-finals on the ITF Tour but has gone no further.

Despite a poor season, Kudermetova is the far higher ranked player and should be expected to advance.
