Pavel Kotov vs Tallon Griekspoor prediction

Pavel Kotov enters the main draw of the Shanghai Masters as a qualifier, following wins over Martin Damm and Aleksandar Vukic. He was unable to qualify for the Chengdu Open, but he will now be making his first tour-level appearance of the season. Kotov has won three Challenger Tour titles, and he is up to 166 in the live ranking, having risen to a career high of 50 in June 2024.

He will face Tallon Griekspoor in the first-round. The Dutchman advanced to the round-of-16 of this event last year, beating Jannik Sinner after the Italian was forced to retire in the deciding set. Griekspoor’s highlight of the year was his run to the final in Dubai, but he has also suffered a number of first-round exits. He is currently on a five-match losing run, with his last victory occurring at the Canadian Open back in early August.

Kotov has been very competitive in the head-to-head against Griekspoor, winning two of their four ATP matches. He has momentum on his side after those victories in qualifying, and he should be able to keep at least one set competitive.
