Paula Badosa vs Coco Gauff prediction

Paula Badosa made an impressive return to Grand Slam action as she beat Daria Kasatkina in the opening round of the US Open. The Spaniard had not competed for 40 days following another injury-related absence, but she was not broken on serve and won 82% of her second serve points. Rain forced Badosa to return the following day at 6-1 5-4, and she eventually converted her ninth match point to complete the victory. 

Coco Gauff began her pursuit of a second title at Flushing Meadows with a controlled win over Zeynep Sonmez. The fourth seed saved four of five break points as she won 6-3 6-4. Gauff arrived in New York with considerable momentum after winning Cincinnati and reaching her first Wimbledon semi-final in July.

Badosa leads the head-to-head 5-3 and has won their last two encounters, beating Gauff at the 2025 Australian Open before recovering from a set down to beat the American in Berlin this June. She has frustrated Gauff in the past and will be determined to produce a strong performance on the big stage. This could prove to be an awkward second-round encounter for the 22-year-old.
