Pablo Carreno Busta has made his return from injury during this North American summer hard court swing. His results have been middling at best with two wins from five matches. He made the second-round of Toronto, lost in round one of Cincinnati and then failed to pick up a second title in Winston-Salem after a disappointing defeat to Sebastian Baez early on. He now returns to a major where he has reached the semi-finals on two occasions.

He will go up against Pablo Llamas Ruiz in round one. Llamas Ruiz qualified for the last slam of the year after beating the experienced Marco Trungelliti in the final round. He performed well in the match, showing great resolve to come from a set down while also firing 17 winners along the way. He has suffered setbacks due to a wrist injury last year but seems to be slowly building some momentum. 

The gap in experience massively favours Carreno Busta over five sets and though Llamas Ruiz is likely to challenge at times, we expect the 34-year-old to pick up another win in New York.
