Pablo Carreno Busta vs Chris Rodesch prediction
Despite being a two-time Grand Slam semi-finalist and an Olympic bronze medallist, Pablo Carreno Busta has famously never got past the first-round of Wimbledon. This run stretches back to 2014 and the Spaniard is now making his eighth attempt at the All England Club. He has not competed at a grass court tournament leading up to it having last played on the Challenger Tour in Lyon two weeks ago.
Chris Rodesch pulled off a shock in the final stage of qualifying as he beat top seed Marton Fucsovics in four sets. He struggled in the weeks prior on the Challenger Tour, failing to go far in Ilkley and Nottingham. This will be his first appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam.
Carreno Busta will be the favourite but he hasn’t competed on grass this season and his previous seven Wimbledon first-round exits may put him at a psychological disadvantage. He could find it difficult to get over the line against a buzzy young opponent in Rodesch who has nothing to lose and we can see this one going long.
Pablo Carreno Busta vs Chris Rodesch tip: Over 3.5 sets
