Oksana Selekhmeteva advanced to the second-round of the US Open after beating Aoi Ito in straight sets. Selekhmeteva defeated Ito in Cincinnati Open qualifying and repeated the feat here as she won 6-2 6-4 after only an hour and 22 minutes. This was the 22-year-old’s first ever main draw victory at Flushing Meadows.

Selekhmeteva will now face Kamilla Rakhimova, after she produced arguably the best performance of her career to upset two-time Grand Slam singles champion Barbora Krejcikova. Rakhimova needed seven match points to finish the contest but held her nerve to win 7-6 (4) 6-2.

Selekhmeteva leads the head-to-head 3-1, and she has beaten Rakhimova on two occasions in 2026, including a straight sets win in Austin and in three sets as the Eastbourne Open. Rakhimova produced the bigger first-round upset by a distance, but Selekhmeteva’s recent form and repeated success in the matchup give her a compelling chance.
