Nuno Borges comes into this one on the back of reaching the fourth round of the Montreal Open before a three-set loss to Luciano Darderi. It has been a positive year for the 29-year-old Portuguese as he returns to the hard court season.
Thanasi Kokkinakis had to withdraw from qualification for the Montreal Open when a set down against Alexei Popyrin. The 30-year-old Australian hasn’t won successive matches in a full ATP event since reaching the third round in Adelaide in early-January with an injury-plagued 18 months or so.
Kokkinakis is still fighting for form after regaining his fitness and Borges is expected to come out on top here, potentially quite comfortably.
