Nuno Borges knocked out top seed Luciano Darderi in straight sets to reach the semi-finals of the Mallorca Championships. The Portuguese dominated the first set tiebreak and went on to win 7-6 (1) 6-4. He was not broken on serve, saving all four break points he offered up overall. Borges has not dropped a set so far this week, having also beaten Adrian Mannarino and Jan-Lennard Struff.
He will now play Ethan Quinn. The American came from a set down to beat Vit Kopriva in a competitive quarter-final match. Quinn struck 15 aces and won 85% of his first serve points as he won 5-7 7-5 6-3. This is his best ever result on the ATP Tour this season, and he will now be hoping to reach a first tour-level final.
Borges has impressed so far this week, but Quinn will be dangerous with that strong first serve and power from the back of the court, primarily on the forehand wing.
