Nuno Borges vs Casper Ruud prediction
Nuno Borges was not at his best but did manage to come from a set down to beat veteran Facundo Bagnis in his second-round match. Two sets saw just one break of serve which went Bagnis’ way in the first, while Borges found his rhythm in the tiebreak to level things up. The 35-year-old struggled with a leg injury in the decider as Borges raced clear to win 5-7 7-6 6-2.
He now faces Casper Ruud as he continued his recovery from injury with a 6-3 6-3 win over Roman Safiullin. It was the Norwegian’s best performance since his return, and he was always in control against the Russian.
This will be the third meeting between the pair, and the head-to-head is locked at 1-1 with Ruud leading 1-0 on hard courts. He beat Borges 6-3 6-2 in the quarter-finals of Los Cabos last year but Borges notched a victory just two months ago in the second-round of the French Open.
The three-time Grand Slam finalist was clearly struggling with an injury during that encounter, highlighted by him missing about six weeks of action in its aftermath. He’s back fit and firing and will be determined to get one over on Borges this time around.
