Nuno Borges vs Carlos Alcaraz Prediction

Nuno Borges was in outstanding form in the second round as he comprehensively beat home favourite and 27th-seed Jordan Thompson in straight sets. He is playing some quality tennis right now and did not give Thompson a sniff.

He now faces another seed but this time it is number three; Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard looked refreshed after the break and has come into 2025 looking assured and playing some top-quality tennis.

He beat Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets and only dropped five games in totals against the Japanese player. He won 89% of his points on first serve and 81% on the second as he won almost double the number of points of his opponent (80-41).

The pair have met once before and that came in 2023. Alcaraz dominated that match 6-3 6-1 on clay and while it may not have much of an impact on this match, it will give him that extra fraction of confidence coming into this one.

Alcaraz is looking strong and he should be able to handle Borges. The Portuguese player is so strong in so many areas of the game, but Alcaraz is better in those areas which are arguably Borges’ strengths. He could well drop a set, but Alcaraz should have too much.
