Nuno Borges broke Chinese hearts as he edged Juncheng Shang to reach the round of 16 in Shanghai. 

The Portuguese ended the wildcard’s run with a 7-6 4-6 6-3 win but now faces a daunting challenge against Alex de Minaur.

The Aussie charged to a 6-1 7-5 victory over Kamil Majchrzak to reach this stage of a Masters 1000 for the 24th time and is now one win away from chalking up 50 for the year. 

Borges has looked more like his old self in this tournament after coming into it on the back of just two wins in nine. 

This will be a first meeting and we expect seventh seed Demon to have all the answers, with his speed and proactive baseline-hitting likely to prove decisive against a player ranked 44 places below him in the rankings and with a more pragmatic game that perhaps lacks a strong Plan B against opponents of this ilk.
