Novak Djokovic made a strong start in New York as he swept aside Learner Tien in straight sets. The 24-time champion was tested in the second set but it was mostly plain sailing as he won 6-1 7-6 6-2 after two hours and 25 minutes. Djokovic produced a strong performance at the net, winning 75% of his net approaches.
He will now face Zachary Svadja in the next round. Svadja also got through in straight sets as he beat Zsombor Piros 6-4 6-2 7-5. This was his second victory at the US Open for the American, having achieved the same feat in 2021. He has now won four games on the bounce after his three victories in qualifying, and he will relish the opportunity to face Djokovic on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Djokovic showed no signs of rust in his first match in over a month, and we expect another comfortable straight sets win in his favour.
