Nishesh Basavareddy was unable to get his second win in a row as he lost comprehensively to Alexander Blockx in his second group stage match. The American struggled to get going and went on to lose 4-3 (2) 4-3 (8) 4-1. The 20-year-old did create 10 break point opportunities but could only convert one of them. Basavareddy will need to beat Justin Engel in his final group stage match to give himself the best possible chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.
Engel is already knocked out of the tournament after losing his second match in succession. The young German showed some fight in the second set but was ultimately powerless against Dino Prizmic, losing 4-1 2-4 4-3 (3) 4-1 after one hour and 28 minutes.
Basavareddy knows he has to deliver in his final group stage match, and he’ll be expected to come through and win this one against the inexperienced Engel.
