Nikola Bartunkova advanced to the round-of-16 in Austin after a straight sets win over Katie Volynets. The first set was straight-forward for the Czech, as she broke in just the third game and went on to go in front. The second saw seven breaks of serve in total, with Bartunkova recovering from a 4-2 deficit to win 6-4 7-5 after one hour and 45 minutes.
She now takes on Taylor Townsend. The American staged a brilliant recovery to beat Linda Fruhvirtova in three sets. Townsend went a set down and kept her nerve to win the second set tiebreak, before closing the match out to win 4-6 7-6 (3) 7-5.
Bartunkova has now won 10 of her opening 13 matches this season and she will look to dictate the rallies from the off with her aggression and flat groundstrokes. Townsend will also seek to attack, but the 19-year-old remains the favourite to win.
