Nikola Bartunkova has three title victories on the ITF Tour, and the 19-year-old is now set to make her WTA 500 debut in Guadalajara. The Czech has a very strong record on indoor hard courts, winning 19 of her 24 matches this season, but she has limited experience outdoors on the surface. She is currently ranked 228 in the world.
Nicole Fossa Huergo is 41 places further down at 269, and the 30-year-old will look to grab a win against her much younger opponent in round one. She competed in the 125-level tournament in Guadalajara last week, reaching the quarter-finals before a loss to Alexandra Eala. Eala would go on to win the event. That was her second best result of the season, only bettered by a semi-final appearance in Buenos Aires on the ITF Tour.
Fossa Huergo seems to be in better form, but Bartunkova has youth on her side and will fancy her chances. We can see this heading into three sets.
