Nikola Bartunkova vs Mayar Sherif prediction

Nikola Bartunkova continued her upwards trajectory as she reached the semi-finals of the Monterrey Open, in her last event before the US Open. The Czech player, who reached a career best of 38 in the world just last week, looked on course for the final as she easily won the first set against Elise Mertens. However, the Belgian would fight back to win in three. Her best result of the season was advancing to the final of a WTA 125 event in Eastbourne, where she lost to Alexandra Eala.

She will face Mayar Sherif in the first-round at Flushing Meadows. The Egyptian enjoyed an impressive run of form earlier in the summer, winning three titles, including on the WTA Tour in Iasi, while also reaching the semi-finals in Hamburg.

However, Sherif has played just four matches on outdoor hard court this season, losing three in total. Bartunkova has to be regarded as the favourite to win this one.
