Nikola Bartunkova vs Magdalena Frech prediction

Nikola Bartunkova advanced to round three of a Grand Slam for the third time this season after wins over Mayar Sherif and Tatjana Maria at the US Open. However, she was unable to make it through to the round-of-16 following a straight sets defeat to Mirra Andreeva. Bartunkova has enjoyed a breakthrough year, having moved into the top 40 of the world rankings. Her highlights have included a last four appearance in Monterrey, quarter-finals in Ostrava and Berlin, and a run to the fourth-round of the Italian Open. 

She is seeded for the first time at a WTA 1000 event and faces Magdalena Frech in round two. Frech came out on top against Elsa Jacquemot in the previous round. The Pole had beaten Jacquemot in Hobart earlier in the year and repeated the feat with 7-5 3-6 6-4 win.

Bartunkova leads the head-to-head after a straight sets win at the Guadalajara Open last year. She is an even more established player these days and will be difficult to stop.
