Nikola Bartunkova vs Bianca Andreescu prediction
Nikola Bartunkova was unable to produce a deep run at her home event last time out as she lost in the second-round of the Prague Open to Lanlana Tararudee. Bartunkova had a 5-1 lead in the third set and numerous match points, but lost the encounter on a deciding set tiebreak. It’s still been a strong year on tour for the 20-year-old, with two quarter-final finishes and a run to the round-of-16 at the Italian Open.
She faces home favourite Bianca Andreescu in round one. The Canadian last competed at Wimbledon, winning all three of her matches in qualifying but then losing to Shuai Zhang in straight sets. Andreescu won this tournament in 2019, a month before her stunning US Open triumph. Andreescu is now ranked outside the top 150 and has struggled to make an impact on the WTA Tour, despite a couple of ITF titles.
Andreescu will receive plenty of home support and that may lead to a competitive encounter, but Bartunkova remains a clear favourite.
