Nikola Bartunkova pulled off an upset in round one as she overcame a slump in the middle of the match to beat Daria Kasatkina. The 19-year-old saved two set points in the first set tiebreak to take the lead, only for Kasatkina to roar back with six consecutive games in her favour to level the match up. Bartunkova then went an early break down in the decider but stormed back to win 7-6 0-6 6-3 after two hours and three minutes.

Belinda Bencic is her next opponent. The Swiss continued her unbeaten start to the season as she notched up her sixth win in a row to beat Katie Boulter in the first-round. Bencic was dominant from the start as she sealed the first set without dropping a game. Bencic looked set for the win when she broke to go 4-3 up, but an improved Boulter broke back immediately. Nevertheless, Bencic would break again and serve it out to win 6-0 7-5.

Bencic is arguably the most in-form player on the tour at the moment and she’ll be heavily favoured to beat the world number 126.
