Nikola Bartunkova continued her impressive campaign as she defeated Clara Tauson in straight sets to progress to the third-round of the Canadian Open. The Czech had defeated home favourite Bianca Andreescu in her first-round match and backed it up with a 6-3 6-4 win over the Dane. She will hope to serve better in her next encounter, as she could only muster a first serve percentage of 47% against Tauson. Bartunkova only made her top 100 debut in March, but is already up to world number 40 in the live rankings.
Her next opponent is Amanda Anisimova. The American was handed a walkover in the second-round as Lanlana Tararudee withdrew from the tournament. She has not featured on the tour since her round three loss at Wimbledon to Madison Keys. Anisimova has dropped down to world number 10 and is yet to reach a final this season.
Anisimova will be raring to go after a month away from action, but Bartunkova is a tricky opponent to face.
