Nicolas Mejia picked up a win on his Wimbledon debut as he defeated Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in four sets. He was a set and a break down at one point, but he rallied to win 4-6 6-4 7-5 7-6 (2). There were 15 breaks of serve during the match, but Mejia can now look forward to a second-round clash with Michael Zheng.
The American, who had to qualify for the tournament, pulled off an upset in the opening round as he beat home favourite Cameron Norrie in five sets. Norrie, a former semi-finalist who reached the last eight in 2025, struggled to deal with Zheng’s movement and ball striking as the American dominated the deciding set ten-point tiebreak to win 6-7 (7) 6-2 6-7 (2) 6-4 7-6 (4)
Zheng could overwhelm Mejia with his attacking style, and he will be difficult to stop if he replicates his first-round performance.
