Further problems with injuries have seen Nick Kyrgios’ ranking drop to outside the top 600 in the world. He missed most of 2024 due to a wrist problem and could only feature in a handful of matches at the start of last season, with his last match on tour being a second-round defeat to Karen Khachanov in Miami 10 months ago. Aleksandar Kovacevic is up to a ranking high of 60 as he begins his 2026 campaign. He did win two Challenger titles last season, and while he struggled at times on the ATP Tour, he also managed to get through to two finals in Montpellier and Los Cabos.
There are huge question marks over Kyrgios’ fitness heading into this one, but he is likely to remain competitive with that serve of his, which provides him with a number of free points.
