Naomi Osaka vs Elena Rybakina prediction
Naomi Osaka continued her fine run of form as she defeated home favourite Leylah Fernandez in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals in Toronto. Osaka was broken on just the one occasion as she won 6-4 6-4. The four-time Grand Slam singles champion has now won 13 of her last 15 completed matches, and she is yet to drop a set at this year’s event.
She will face world number two Elena Rybakina for a place in the last four. Rybakina was far from her best but managed a miraculous escape in the previous round as she came from a double break down in the deciding set to beat Liudmila Samsonova. Rybakina won 6-4 4-6 6-4.
Despite being the lower-ranked player, Osaka arrives in far better form and has been considerably more convincing throughout the tournament. She appears to be growing in confidence with every match, and her powerful serve and aggressive baseline game give her the weapons to cause Rybakina serious problems.
With the Kazakh still struggling to rediscover her best level and looking vulnerable at times, Osaka looks well placed to take advantage and continue her impressive run.
