Nadia Podoroska vs Simona Waltert prediction

Nadia Podoroska last competed in the qualifying stages of the Cincinnati Open, but she failed to make the main draw after a defeat to Emiliana Arango. She won the first set, but went on to lose 4-6 7-5 6-3. Podorosoka is ranked outside the world’s top 400, mainly due to a prolonged 14-month absence from the tour due to injury. She has put together a solid record at lower-level ITF and Challenger events, but the first-round of the US Open could be a different story.

She faces Simona Waltert. The Swiss reached the final of the Nordea Open last month, but was unable to win the WTA 125 title after a loss to former world number two Paula Badosa. That remains her best result of the season, but she has also won three main draw WTA 1000 matches. 

Podoroska boasts the better record this season, but the majority of her success has come at lower-level events. Waltert has mainly competed on the WTA Tour and deserves to start as the favourite here.
