Mubarak Shannan Zayid is handed a wildcard for his home tournament. He made his ATP debut a decade ago but has not won any of his four tour-level matches. He is ranked outside of the top 1000 in the world.
Alexei Popyrin is his opponent in the first-round. The Australian’s losing run was extended to 10 matches last week as he was defeated by Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets. Popyrin's poor run of form stretches all the way back to August, when he lost to Jannik Sinner in the second-round of the US Open in straight sets.
This is a golden opportunity for Popyrin to snap his streak and restore some confidence after one of the toughest spells of his career so far.
