Moyuka Uchijima vs Sofia Kenin prediction
Moyuka Uchijima competed in Osaka last time out and despite a strong performance in the first set, went on to lose to Sorana Cirstea in round one. Uchijima also qualified in Wuhan and won her first-round match before losing to two-time Grand Slam singles champion and world number three Coco Gauff. The Japanese player suffered a desperately disappointing losing run during the middle part of the season but is beginning to pick up more victories.
She goes up against Sofia Kenin in the first-round of this tournament. The American’s last performance was arguably her worst of a disappointing season as she was thrashed 6-1 6-0 by McCartney Kessler in the first-round of the Ningbo Open. Kenin has failed to win back-to-back matches at a tournament since Roland Garros.
Despite Kenin being the higher ranked player, Uchijima will want to perform well in front of a home crowd while the former Australian Open champion is likely to be low on confidence after her abject display in her last match. Kenin should still come through this one but she will need to improve.
