Moyuka Uchijima vs Cristina Bucsa prediction
Moyuka Uchijima qualified for the Canadian Open after a comfortable win over Himeno Sakatsume. The Japanese player is ranked just outside the top 100 of the world rankings. She did advance to the second-round of the Australian Open earlier this year, but she is still searching for her first tour-level victory of the campaign. She lost in round one of WTA 1000 events in Doha, Dubai and Madrid, though she does have two titles on the ITF circuit this year.
Her first-round opponent is Cristina Bucsa. The Spaniard’s form has completely collapsed ever since winning her first WTA title at the Merida Open. Bucsa has lost seven of eight matches since that point, and her woes deepened last week as she was beaten by Polina Kudermetova at the Washington Open, despite taking the first set. Bucsa was close to victory but lost the second set on a tiebreak and failed to win a game in the third.
Bucsa will remain as the favourite, but she is struggling at the moment, while Uchijima will take confidence from her performance in qualifying.
