Moyuka Uchijima vs Coco Gauff prediction
Moyuka Uchijima produced her best performance in quite some time as she beat Xinyu Wang in straight sets to advance through to the second-round of the Wuhan Open. That’s now three straight wins for the Japanese player, including the qualifying stages. The second set swung in both directions, with both players failing to serve it out, and Uchijima winning the last four points of the tiebreak to come through 6-4 7-6. She suffered a terrible run of form after the clay court season, but Uchijima has now managed to get some wins together.
She will face Coco Gauff in round two. The American was unable to make back-to-back finals at the China Open as she was blown away by Amanda Anisimova in the last four, losing in just under an hour. Gauff did make the final here in Wuhan and will want to end the campaign strongly ahead of the WTA Finals.
They faced each other earlier this year at Indian Wells, with Gauff only just squeezing past Uchijima in three sets, winning 6-4 3-6 7-6. This encounter should be more comfortable for the American.
