Monique Barry has been handed a wildcard for the Auckland Open. The 23-year-old is ranked 664 in the world and is yet to win a match on the WTA Tour. She attempted to qualify for this tournament at the start of last year but was unable to do so. She did not fare particularly well on the ITF circuit in 2025, as she failed to get past the quarter-final stage of any tournament she competed in.
Ella Seidel will hope to continue her upwards trajectory in 2026 after an encouraging campaign last year. She is now safely inside the top 100 of the world rankings, having reached three WTA quarter-finals in Cluj, Seoul and Guangzhou during last season. Furthermore, she achieved her best result at a WTA 1000 tournament after making the round-of-16 in Cincinnati.
Seidel is the overwhelming favourite to win this one, and the 20-year-old will be expected to come through in straight sets.
