Moise Kouame became the youngest male player to reach the third-round of a Grand Slam since Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon in 2003 as he overcame Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in five sets. Kouame recovered from 5-3 down in the fifth set as he continued his dream major debut with a dramatic 6-3 7-6 3-6 2-6 7-6 (8) victory after four hours and 56 minutes.
The 17-year-old now takes on Alejandro Tabilo. The Chilean was handed a walkover to the next round as his second-round opponent Valentin Vacherot withdrew from the event. In his first-round match, Tabilo had beaten Kamil Majchrzak in straight sets. His results on clay this year have been strong, with a Challenger title and a final appearance at the Rio Open during the Golden Swing.
He will be well rested ahead of this one, and while Kouame could challenge him for at least a set, the teenager may run out of steam after his exploits in the previous round.
