TYSON NAM VS TAGIR ULANBEKOV LOWDOWN

Tyson Nam (20-12-1) was gaining some serious steam after moving up to bantamweight. He lost his first two UFC fights via unanimous decision down at 125 lbs with very tough matchups in the form of Sergio Pettis and Kai Kara-France. However, when he moved up a division, he got handed Zarrukh Adashev and then Jerome Rivera knocking them both out. He then met Matt Schnell and fought a good fight but he just missed out on a split decision.

Tagir Ulanbekov’s (13-1) only loss came to Zhalgas Zhumagalov (who is now in the UFC) for Fight Nights Global back in 2018. He lost a majority decision, but he went on to rack up three wins for Gorilla Fighting - he earnt a unanimous decision over Alexander Podiesniy and submitted Denis Oliveira Fontes Araujo and Denilson Matos to earn to call-up. He met Bruno Silva last October earning a unanimous decision which is a win that will look better with time.

TYSON NAM VS TAGIR ULANBEKOV PREDICTION

This will be a battle between Nam’s power and Ulanbekov’s grappling. We know Nam will look to keep this fight on the feet at all costs and find a home for his blistering right hand. He has ferocious power which has transferred beautifully up a class and he will counter at any opportunity.

However, it will be hard to counter if he is on his back. Ulanbekov is a good striker himself and he will not be afraid to trade with Nam, but he knows the path of least resistance will be to chain takedowns together, beat him up on the floor and look for a submission.

Nam has the power to cause the upset, but we have not seen him against a top wrestler and we expect Ulanbekov to be able to take him down at will. If the Russian plays the safe game, he will walk away with a decision or potential submission but if he decides to test his chin, he could suffer his first UFC loss.
