THE LOWDOWN
After back-to-back decision losses, Tyson Nam bounced back in style in June as he knocked out Zarrukh Adashev in jus 32 seconds to get back to winning ways and he will look to put together a string of victories now. The 36-year-old was slated to face Matt Schnell last weekend but that fight was scrapped after his opponent was forced off the card so he has to adjust to his new opponent with less than a week’s notice.
Jerome Rivera steps up to face Nam at short notice and he brings a 10-2 record into the Octagon. The 25-year-old emerged from Dana White’s Contender Series 2020 with a win over Luis Ronaldo Rodriguez and that was his third victory in a row. Seven of his ten wins have come via submission and there is no disguising how he will approach this fight against Nam.
THE PREDICTION
Tyson Nam may be in the twilight of his career but his 32-second performance of the night knockout in his last fight showed he still has plenty to offer. This match was scheduled this week but it is a favourable one for Nam and one he will expect to win. He is facing Jerome Rivera who is a 25-year-old submission specialist but Nam will not be concerned by the threat he poses. Nam has never been submitted in his 31 professional fights so if Rivera is going to win, his best route will be via the scorecards as he has lacks knockout power. Nam’s last three losses have come on the scorecards and he will have to match Rivera’s workrate to get the decision, but he will focus on the knockout. His knockout power seems to be improving with age and expect him to catch Rivera at some stage and stop him.
Winner: Nam via KO/KO
