NORMA DUMONT VS GERMAINE DE RANDAMIE LOWDOWN
Norma Dumont (10-2) has been eager for a big name after compiling an impressive UFC record of 6-2. Her last loss was a split decision to Macy Chiasson (2022) back at UFC 274. She has gone on to earn three unanimous decisions on the trot over Danyelle Wolf (2022), Karol Rosa (2023) and Chelsea Chandler (2023). Now, she has received her big name.
Germaine de Randamie (10-4) finally returns after three and a half years out of the game. The former featherweight champion’s only losses in the last 12 years were to the ‘GOAT’ Amanda Nunes (2023 and 2019). She last fought in 2020 pulling off a shock submission over Julianna Pena (2020) and then took the time off where she had a baby last year.
NORMA DUMONT VS GERMAINE DE RANDAMIE PREDICTION
Two years ago, we would back de Randamie all day long. She has good takedown defence and was one of the best female strikers we have seen in the octagon. However, she has been out for a long time and Dumont has blossomed into a very accomplished fighter.
Although de Randamie is 39 years old, if this stays on the feet, we would still back her striking to piece Dumont up from range and keep her at bay with her jab. However, if she is slow off the mark and Dumont seals an early takedown, she will prove why she is the favourite.
We expect this to be a back-and-forth battle and will all come down to de Randamie’s takedown defence. It will also be interesting to see if Dumont can cut down to 135 lbs smoothly. If not, de Randamie makes even more sense as the underdog, but the activity, form and momentum of Dumont sway this in her favour.
Prediction: Dumont via Decision
Value bet: De Randamie to win
