NEIL MAGNY VS MAX GRIFFIN LOWDOWN

Neil Magny (25-8) has been fighting the best welterweights in the world for about eight years now and struts out for his 26th UFC fight this weekend. After getting knocked out by Santiago Ponzinibbio (2018) and serving a drugs ban, he returned in 2020, shook off the rust and pulled off three extremely impressive unanimous decisions over Li Jingliang, Rocco Martin and Robbie Lawler. That led him into the path on Michael Chiesa (2021) and got a taste of his own medicine getting ground out in a unanimous decision. However, he has bounced straight back with another huge win outpointing Geoff Neal in May last year.

Max Griffin (18-8) is enjoying a much-needed resurgence sitting proudly on a three-fight win streak. He clung on to his place in the roster after losing six out of his first nine UFC fights. He had some tough matchups but only got finished once which was a TKO by Colby Covington on his debut. However, after his latest loss – split decision to Alex Oliveira (2020), he has gone on to TKO Ramiz Brahimaj (2020) taking his ear home, brutally knock Kenan Song out in the first round and a unanimous decision over the veteran Carlos Condit (2021).

NEIL MAGNY VS MAX GRIFFIN PREDICTION

Griffin’s form has been rewarded with a very tough fight. He is on a good streak, but a win over Condit is not anywhere near as impressive as a win over Neal right now. Magny is as seasoned as it gets and on paper, has the experience and tools to handle anything Griffin has to offer.

That said, Griffin is in the form of his life with some vital confidence. He also displayed some impressive hand power in his fight with Song and Magny will have to respect that. However, we expect Magny to dictate the tempo with his reach four-inch reach advantage and control the grappling exchanges particularly in the clinch.

Griffin is capable of a surprise, but on paper, Magny should take this all day and we predict a vintage decision.
