MIKE DAVIS VS MASON JONES LOWDOWN

After his scheduled fights with Giga Chikadze fell through last year, Mike Davis (8-2) finally gets back into the octagon for his third UFC fight. He made his name for the Square Rings Promotions and received a baptism of fire in his two losses. His first loss was via unanimous decision to Sodiq Yusuff at featherweight on the Contender Series which forced him back to the drawing board and Square Ring Promotions where he picked up two more wins to earn the call-up. However, his debut was against Gilbert Burns who is now next in line for the welterweight title and inevitably lost via submission. Although Davis’ last fight was in October 2019, it was a brilliant knockout of Thomas Gifford forcing him to eat dirt with an onslaught.

Mason Jones (10-0) flies to Fight Island after blazing a trail in the Cage Warriors lightweight division and is coming off his first title defence where he knocked out Adam Proctor in the first round back in September. He has finished seven of his 10 wins and has quickly become one of the UK’s hottest prospects.

MIKE DAVIS VS MASON JONES PREDICTION

Davis has been less active and has two losses on the record, but they will have only made him a better fighter. His experience in the UFC will be crucial and is why he is the favourite however, Mason Jones looks like the real deal and this is a huge opportunity to put his name on the lightweight map.

This is a fantastic match-up and should be an exciting scrap as they are both very aggressive and will look for the finish whether that be on the feet or on the ground. They both have knockout power, but Davis will be wise to keep the distance. Jones is deadly at close range with elbows and knees and if he gets Davis pinned to the mat, he will be in serious trouble.

Davis is a very dangerous fighter, but we back the Welshman to pull off the upset and continue his surging run.

Prediction: Jones via Decision
