MATT SEMELSBERGER VS MARTIN SANO JR LOWDOWN
Matt Semelsberger (8-3) returns after getting his five-fight win streak snapped by Khaos Williams. He lost a unanimous decision back in June and it was surprising it lasted for 15 minutes considering their power. Nonetheless, it was still valuable experience for Semelsberger who was finding life easy for a UFC fledgling. He made is debut in August last year winning a unanimous decision over Carlton Minus and then took 16 seconds to erase Jason Witt with the simplest of straight right hands.
Martin Sano Jr (4-2-1) needs to buy a lottery ticket after finding himself on this stacked UFC 266 card. He makes his debut after not fighting for over four and a half years and not winning for over seven years. That win was a submission over Clint Roberts. He then went on to lose a unanimous decision to Dominic Waters for the World Series of Fighting (2014) and then got knocked out by Danasabe Mohammed for Bellator (2016). He fought again for Bellator a year later, but it was a draw with Diego Herzog, so he has his friend Nick Diaz to thank for getting on this card.

On paper, this is a complete mismatch. Semelsberger is more skilled everywhere, has been more active, has more experience and is also the bigger man. Based on his past fights, Sano’s best chance is to catch Semelsberger as he has power in his hands but as that is his only threat, he will need a lucky punch to walk away with a win.
Semelsberger is expected to still keep the fight standing and we just have not seen anything to suggest that Sano should win. We are backing Semelsberger for a knockout, but this is one to stay clear of from a betting point of view unless you know something about Sano that we don’t.
