MARC DIAKIESE VS VIACHESLAV BORSHCHEV LOWDOWN
There was a time when Marc Diakiese (14-5) was one of the hottest prospects in the lightweight division. He stretched his unbeaten record to 12-0 after his first three UFC fights in 2017 adding a couple more vintage knockouts. However, he has gone on to lose five of his next seven. They were to top talents including Dan Hooker (2017), Nasrat Haqparast (2018) and Rafael Fiziev (2020) and he did pick up a couple decent unanimous decision wins over Joe Duffy and Lando Vannata in 2019 but he is coming off one of his more disappointing losses back in November getting submitted by Rafael Alves which is only the second time he has been finished.
Viacheslav Borshchev (6-1) makes his second UFC appearance with a fair bit of hype around him. That is because like Diakiese, he is a very exciting striker finishing all but one of his fights via knockout. After a split decision loss to Will Starks (2020) he has enrolled on a tear knocking out Corey Dulaney and Kendly St Louis for Titan FC and then Chris Duncan on the Contender series which were all last year. He continued the form on his debut by finishing Dakota Bush which was sparked by a beautiful left hook to the liver.

They are both phenomenal strikers. Diakiese is more flashy with an array of electrifying kicks and spinning attacks whereas Borshchev is a technical and compact boxer and clearly just as capable of a knockout.
We expect Diakiese to start quick and begin to force the action, but he will need to keep up a pace for three rounds which we cannot see happening especially with his form. Borshchev is very patient and oozes class on the feet and will be a threat until the bell.
So, Diakiese will be wise to mix in some takedowns to keep him guessing and try and catch him with a knockout blow. However, we feel Borshchev has too much nous to get lured in and should be able to finish stronger with the Brit’s durability dragging this to the bell.
