JOANNE WOOD VS ALEXA GRASSO LOWDOWN

Joanne Wood (15-7) was originally scheduled to fight Grasso at UFC Fight Night 198 back in November, but Taila Santos filled in which was another tough match-up. The Brazilian submitted Wood in the first round to make in two losses in a row after a split decision loss to Lauren Murphy (2021). She is now 7-7 in the UFC, and it is fair to say, her hopes of fighting Valentina Shevchenko are most likely over, but she is still a fan favourite and graces the co-main event spot.

Alexa Grasso (13-3) completes the other half of that spot, and it is great to see her back after not fighting in over a year. Her last outing was against Maycee Barber who she beat via unanimous decision, making it two on the bounce after outpointing Ji Yeon Kim (2020). That makes it 5-3 for her in the UFC now, but two of those losses were to the two best wrestlers in the division – Tatiana Suarez (2018) and Carla Esparza (2019).

JOANNE WOOD VS ALEXA GRASSO PREDICTION

We are hoping this fight stays on the feet as Wood is an exciting and excellent Muay Thai fighter and Grasso’s striking is improving with every fight displaying fluid boxing and a strong kicking game.

It will be a great battle although Wood’s glaring hole is her grappling so it will be interesting to see Grasso attempts a takedown. Interestingly, Wood attempts more (1.6 per 15 minutes to Grasso’s 0.3) but the Mexican is more likely to mix in some grappling.

This should be a very even fight and if this stays on the feet for 15 minutes, a Wood decision is likely, but Grasso’s well-roundedness swings this in her favour for us.
