JARED VANDERAA VS WALDO CORTES-ACOSTA LOWDOWN
Jared Vanderaa (12-9) makes his sixth appearance at the APEX trying to save his UFC career. He is on a four-fight skid after getting TKO’d by Alexander Romanov (2021), outpointed by Andrei Arlovski (2022) and submitted by Alexey Oleynik (2022) which are fates of many. However, he just got knocked out by Chase Sherman who had a UFC record of 3-9 before that fight which is unforgivable if you want to make it anywhere in the heavyweight division.
Hoping to send him on his way is Waldo Cortes-Acosta (7-0) who is yet to taste that losing feeling. He has finished five of his seven wins and is coming off three straight knockouts all this year. He pummelled Derrick Weaver and Thomas Peterson for LFA and is coming off a first-round destruction of Danilo Suzart on the Contender Series back in August.
JARED VANDERAA VS WALDO CORTES-ACOSTA PREDICTION
The writing looks like it is on the wall for Vanderaa. He has to recall the skills that got him to the UFC and get his hands on Acosta to get him to the ground and work on a submission. He is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu but has not attempted a single submission in the UFC.
Cortes-Acosta also has ferocious knockout power and with three knockout losses in the books, he will not need many clean shots to put Vanderaa away. This is why Vanderaa is the underdog along with his dire form. However, if the fight goes to the floor, you can throw his form out the window.
That said, we have not seen anything from Vanderaa to suggest he will veer from his striking and resort to his grappling, so we are backing Cortes-Acosta to get his UFC career off the ground.
