HOLLY HOLM VS KAYLA HARRISON LOWDOWN
Holly Holm’s (15-6(1)) record was saved a blemish when Mayra Bueno Silva failed a drugs test. She got caught in a ninja choke back at UFC on ESPN 49 last year. However, that has now been overturned to a ‘no contest’ to go 3-1(1) in her last five. Those wins are unanimous decisions over Yana Santos (2023), Irene Aldana (2020) and the current champion Raquel Pennington (2020) and she would love nothing more than to get one last shot at snatching her belt back.
Now, she welcomes Kayla Harrison (16-1) to the UFC. The Olympic gold medallist in judo transition seamlessly into MMA back in 2018 and racked up 14 wins for the PFL and one for Invicta before suffering her first defeat. That was a unanimous decision to Larissa Pacheco (2022) in the PFL 10 final. She returned a year later to fight UFC alum Aspen Ladd and won a unanimous decision of her own.
HOLLY HOLM VS KAYLA HARRISON PREDICTION
Harrison struts onto the biggest ever card riding a one-fight win streak. She takes on a former champion who has fought all of the very best female fighters to have graced the sport. Yet, she is the heavy favourite.
Holm’s grappling has become an important facet of her game and has extended her shelf life in the division. However, she needs to stick to her roots here as Harrison is a decorated beast of a grappler.
Harrison will be considerably stronger and heavier on the night. She will waste no time in closing the distance and attempting to pin Holm on her back and keep her there.
Holm’s movement and illusiveness will make it very hard for Harrison to find her. However, if she grabs a hold of Holm, she will ragdoll her to the canvas. In the meantime, Holm will constantly circle and pepper from range and she will try and make this as boring as possible and not stay still.
However, there is less room for error here and we are backing the judoka to eventually grab a hold of her. She has never cut down to 135 lbs in MMA before so depending on how the weight cut goes, Holm could be a value pick.
Prediction: Harrison via Decision
Value bet: Holm via Decision
